16 hz sub bass horn

I have an upcoming project at the Polaris Dance Studio in Portland, Oregon that requires the utmost in performance. There's room in the rafters to build a fabulous 16 hz sub bass horn. Naturally, my mind begins the quest for audio Nirvana.

I'm donating a few of my unused components, boosting my Karma while supporting the Arts. I've always been impressed with Robert Guitron's passion for dance, his skills at choreographing his students and ability to manifest a large dance studio.

Since this project is such a rare bird, I thought I'd keep everyone posted on my progress.

Money is always the "object" when it comes to the Arts: there's never enough. I pray we never lose the talented individuals that keep our world from becoming a primitive routine. If you ever have the opportunity to assist, be a good scout and give all you can.

So here we go:

I've completed a fairly decent model using Hornresp. I've always felt that Hornresp does an excellent job of forecasting performance, and assume that this project will be no different than those completed in the past.

As promised, I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm using four 18 inch drivers from Mach 5, the MJ18. You can achieve better response with a more expensive driver, but this is quite impressive for a super affordable unit.

This horn is 23 feet in length (including speaker enclosure) and has a mouth that's 8 foot x 8 foot. It's not exactly the tiny-house model...

The efficiency (below) is substantial. The average subwoofer in direct radiator mode (bass reflex, or sealed enclosure) is operating around 2% efficiency. Notice that this horn is operating at better than 40% efficiency at 16 hz.
